Chuchawal Royal Haskoning supports Purac in its challenge to create biobased plastic products

Biobased plastics are already being used in a variety of applications such as foils, fibers, household appliances, construction foams, and packaging materials. They are preferred over oil-based plastics because they are made from renewable resources and can reduce CO2 emissions for plastics.

The challenge today is to create more biobased plastic products that contribute to a sustainable world. On the 18th of  December 2009 - CSM announced that its subsidiary Purac will start with the construction of a Lactide plant in Thailand to produce components for bioplastics. These bioplastics (PLA) will significantly lower carbon dioxide (CO2) footprint than the traditional oil based plastics.

Purac awarded Chuchawal Royal Haskoning the civil engineering services which will enable construction of the new plant which will be ready for start up in the second half of 2011.
